WVU joins VOICE to Support Collegiate Esports

IRVINE, CA. — To help support and guide the growth of collegiate esports, West Virginia University is joining Voice of Intercollegiate Esports (VOICE). As part of the partnership, WVU President Michael T. Benson will become a member of VOICE’s Presidents Advisory Council, bringing the University’s leadership and institutional commitment into national discussions about esports.

“WVU is a leader in the collegiate esports field — academically and competitively,” President Benson said. “We look forward to working with other institutions to build on the foundation we’ve laid in this growing field to benefit our students.”

VOICE’s Presidents Advisory Council unites university leaders to discuss and address challenges and opportunities within the collegiate esports ecosystem.

WVU Esports, established as one of the nation’s premier programs, combines high-level competition, academic programs and industry engagement to deliver a holistic experience for students.

The University has earned national championships across multiple game titles and hosts events such as the Responsible Gaming and Digital Entertainment Symposium.

“We’re honored to welcome West Virginia University and President Benson to VOICE,” said Jesse Bodony, Executive Director of VOICE. “WVU leadership will play an integral role as we continue to create a unified voice and set standards for collegiate esports.”
