This study was commissioned at the direction of VOICE’s Presidents Advisory Council.

Overview

‍This Full Methodology & Results report is the technical companion to the Executive Summary (PDF), which provides a non‑technical overview of the study's results. This report is the complete research record that underpins VOICE’s Benefits of Collegiate Esports Study. It documents an IRB‑approved, mixed‑method, cross‑sectional design centered on 12 VOICE‑affiliated universities, including three online Qualtrics surveys of esports program directors (n=12), staff (n=14), and players (n=252; 198 completes); triangulation with institutional research/NCES profiles; and a director‑completed varsity roster spreadsheet (n=598 players). The report covers pilot testing, sampling and fieldwork (Dec 2, 2024–Feb 20, 2025), response procedures, instruments and item wording, and analytic workflows (descriptive statistics, exploratory comparative tests, and qualitative coding). To honor confidentiality, the public version is anonymized (using consistent pseudonyms “University 1–12”).

Forthcoming Academic Publication

‍A forthcoming academic publication that includes interpretation and discussion surrounding this study’s findings will be published in an academic journal. A link to this academic paper will be posted to the VOICE website after publication.
